Title: School of Library and Information Science, Bharathidasan University gets Best LIS School Award by TATA Institute of Social Science (TISS), Mumbai and Indian Association of Teachers of Library and Information Science

Abstract: The university Department of Library and Information Science is integrated with University Library System named as School of Library and Information Science which is functioning as full-fledged teaching and research department since 2007. It has contributed significantly to enhance the quality of library and information science teaching and research particularly taking care of the scholarly information needs of the entire user community of Bharathidasan University and the entire affiliated university environment. The School of Library and Information Science at the university has taken up a lot of technology enabled information processing, dissemination initiatives and received many laurels including the Best User Award from Springer and remains as ‘top e-resource usage’ among the top 10 universities in the nation. The department has produced 300 students placed across the nation in the Institutes of National Importance, Central Institutions as well in corporates and a few in abroad. The department received nearly Rs. 1 Crore of research projects from UGC and government aided funding agencies. Nearly 50 students cleared NET/SET examinations, more than 50+ students were awarded PhD degree and more than 250+ MPhil awarded candidates. Students and scholars from the departments have also secured multiple awards including Best Paper Awards, Best LIS Student Awards, Best Teacher Awards in the academic events held across the nation. Based on the currency of curriculum updation, integration of emerging technologies in LIS education, the academic performance of faculty members, research scholars and placements of students in the last five years, the TATA Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai conferred Best LIS School Award to the School of Library and Information Science, Bharathidasan University on 29th March 2025 in the TISS IATLIS Conference 2025 held at Tata Institute of Social Science, Mumbai in association with Indian Association of Teachers of Library and Information Science (IATLIS). The award was received by Dr. S. Srinivasa Ragavan, Senior Professor and Founder Head, Department of Library and Information Science, Bharathidasan University, Trichy. Prior to this Prof. Srinivasa Ragavan also received SATKAL National Librarian Award conferred by SATKAL Trust, Punjab, a reputed organization during Read India Annual Conclave held at India International Centre New Delhi on 12th March 2025. Bharathidasan University Vice Chancellor Committee Member Prof. Rajesh Kannan, Registrar Prof. Kalidasan and the Controller of Examinations Prof. Jeyapragash applauded the Faculty Member of School of Library and Information Science for bringing laurels to the university.
