Knowledge Dissemination Culture in Higher Educational Institutions: A Comparison of Private and Public Institutions in Bangalore

Abstract

Knowledge is a vital asset to an organization. It is classified as explicit which can be codified and stored and tacit which depends on personal memory and skill which is transferred through training or mentoring. Knowledge sharing culture identifies the ways and means by which information can be passed on to all the members of an organization. It can be done by the formal way, i.e., through the regular meeting, circulars, and issuing handbook, or it can be through informal ways such as discussion over tea or peer meetings and mentoring. In this research attempt is made to assess knowledge sharing culture among faculty members of the higher education and to compare the knowledge sharing culture in private and public institutions.150 respondents are identified from private and public institution each through convenience sampling. Descriptive and ANNOVA are the tools used to analyze the data. The results indicated that private institutions are better knowledge disseminators when compared to public institutions. The research suggested that integration of technology and formation of FLC (faculty learning communities) can enhance knowledge sharing culture in private and public institutions.
